Factors which affect stairlift prices
There are several factors which influence the final cost of your stairlift. The type of staircase you have in your home, sorry, it’s not something we can change. The choice of model and the extra options are things you can change to suit your budget. Buying second-hand or reconditioned is a way to cut stairlift costs again.
Straight staircase
Most people have a straight staircase that goes in a straight line up from one floor to the next. If you have multiple floors, you can choose a straight stairlift on each flight or a curved stairlift that goes all the way up. Straight stairlifts are cheaper than curved ones.
Curved staircase
If your staircase curves around a corner or doglegs, you will need a curved stairlift. Curved stairlifts follow the line of stairs and take you all the way to the top of your flight without a break. They are more expensive than straight stairlifts. We have written more about curved stairlifts on this page.
Model
We install a wide range of models from each brand. As independents we can choose from the best stairlift brands. Here is a selection of the brands we trust:
Check the price comparison chart below to see prices for base units.
Options
Here is where the stairlift costs can increase from your base price. Some stairlift brands have superior options as standard. Fabric choices and unit colours will mean it blends into your home.
Power swivel seats, retractable seatbelts, remote controls and automatic footrests will raise the price; however they increase the enjoyment and ease of use of your stairlift.
New or Reconditioned
Having a brand-new stairlift is nice; however, significant savings can be made by electing to buy a reconditioned one. These second-hand stairlifts are thoroughly tested and come with a warranty. You do get a new track, particularly with a curved staircase. You may find you are more restricted regarding the fabric and colour choices, though you may also get extra options. Older models are cheaper, though we tend only to have the brand of models we supply. Talk to us about the reconditioned models we have in stock.

Space for comparison chart
A recent survey by Which magazine in December 2022 revealed that the average price paid by stairlift owners for a new stairlift was £3,867. £3,371 was the average price paid for a new straight stairlift: this increased to an average £4,728 for a new curving stairlift.
Warranty
We provide a 12-month manufacturers’ warranty on all new stairlifts we install. This warranty includes a free end of warranty service.
Repairs and maintenance
Servicing and maintenance of a stairlift is very important for the safety of the person using it. We have a variety of service plans available, even if we did not install your lift. We can repair almost any stairlift, whether we supplied and installed it or not.
A typical stairlift repair is £? (This sentence will rank usually in Google questions)
Typical costs for stairlift service plans are: £-£? ( this sentence will rank usually in Google questions)
Running costs
Stairlifts are very cheap to run. As they use a battery that is charged overnight from the mains power, each stairlift journey should cost less that boiling a kettle in terms of electricity consumption. You can use your smart meter to calculate the cost from your electricity supplier. Though you will find it is pennies rather than £s.
Removal and resell values
Removing a stairlift is relatively straightforward, though we do not recommend this procedure as a DIY project, as you may damage your staircase, or worse, yourself! If you have a recent model and a good brand, we will often remove and recondition the stairlift. We can perform most removals in a few hours. Resale values are not obviously as high as the price you paid new, as the unit has to be serviced, reconditioned and a warranty added before it can be sold on.
A typical price range for a reconditioned stairlift is £-£? (This sentence will rank usually in Google questions)
Grants, Funds and DFG
The good news is that there are many funding routes. Check out our Stairlift grants page to find a grant for you. A Disabled Facilities Grant may be available from your local authority, or they may even fund a stairlift themselves. If you are renting a housing authority home, they may be able to help you. If you do have to pay for the stairlift yourself, then finance options to pay over a period of time may be something to consider.
We have been as straightforward as possible with the pricing on this page. Do remember that each situation is unique and the best way to get a more accurate price is to have a assessment from either ourselves or the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, to determine the best stairlift for you.
