Sometimes you just want to know what that code means on the side of your stairlift. It might not even an fault. It could just mean flag something you can easily sort out yourself. In some cases there’s no need for an engineers home visit at all.
In the table below we explain the stairlift error codes shown by the Handicare 1100 model of straight stairlifts and possible remedies.
You may have mis-placed the manual, but what do the codes mean on your stairlift?

| – | Lift is charging, Lower armrest may be folded if the lift will not travel or the seat is in the swivelled position | Normal |
| 0 | Key switch is turned off or the emergency stop button has been activated | Normal |
| 1 | The stairlift batteries are low and requires charging – Please leave the lift to charge for a period of time, if this does not resolve the issue call your installer | Normal |
| 2 | The lift requires charge | Normal |
| 3 | Top limit switch is active – If the lift is at the top of the travel then this is normal, if it is anywhere else on the track the could indicate a fault with the sensor | Normal/Error |
| 4 | Top safe edge is activated – Clear obstruction on the up side travel of the lift and try again | Error |
| 5 | Bottom limit switch is active – If the lift is at the top of the travel then this is normal, if it is anywhere else on the track the could indicate a fault with the sensor | Error |
| 6 | Bottom safe edge is activated – Clear obstruction on the down side travel of the lift and try again | Error |
| 7 | Low battery voltage detected | Error |
| 8 | Up direction signal received by the arm toggle switch | Normal |
| 9 | Down direction signal received by the arm toggle switch | Normal |
| d | Main power relay is not open – Call installer | Error |
| L | Fault with main drive motor – Call Installer | Error |
| o | The main printed circuit board has a fault – Call Installer | Error |
| y | Hardware fault detected by the control system – Call Installer | Error |
| FP | ‘F’ then ‘P’ cycling – Footplate activated | Normal |
| No Display | Lift in sleep (power save) mode, use toggle or remote control to wake the stairlift from sleep mode | Normal |
